Each and every day we give our bodies elements that it may or may not need. Depending on the day to day functions you perform, your body will adapt and use what’s given as needed. Remember what we eat and how we train will make up 100% of our bodies appearance and ability.

One of the most vital components to soccer that gets overlooked is your commitment for team chemistry. If you have phenomenal chemistry with your teammates and get along with everyone. You may get lucky enough for one of them to have you on their private jet 😂

Had a tournament in Vegas this weekend for some friendly competition. The highlight was definitely me saving a penalty kick, but overall it was an awesome time and it definitely made me realize how important keeping up with your body is. After game 1 and 2 I was so sore I had no clue how we’d make it to the third, but got the job done!

Warming up the hands to officially come out of retirement!
As a goal keeper, your hands have to react to a shot without hesitation, because a split second is all you may have in a game to react. A popular method of preparing for these shots is some reaction work with volleys. Here’s an example with a teammate for help.

One of my absolute favorite ways to decompress the upper body is dead hanging. This is a daily routine for me!
Any shoulder impingements, back pains, neck pains, etc can all be slowly readjusted by simply holding yourself on a bar. Keep your hands shoulder width, then relax and take in some big deep breaths. You’ll feel your lower body slowly sink out of your hips.

For experimental purposes I hopped right into juggling with no warmup. This is roughly what I noticed:
• More unstable lower body movements than normal.
• Certain muscles more tight than others.
• Soreness noticeable during play.
Granted I was sore from a workout, all of these feelings went away after a good stretch. This shows the importance of priming a muscle by stretching and strengthening it, and getting all that lactic acid out of the muscle before beginning.

Instagram saw this one first, but I liked it too much not to put it here 😝
Health is wealth!
Especially in the game of soccer, everything has to be 100%. If your legs are tight for example, the chance of injury goes up, and the chances of you playing a full match goes down drastically.

Soccer players need to prioritize lower body development. Unless you have a huge game coming up where you need to be perfectly fresh. Training your lower body will only make it more difficult for an opponent to body you off the ball, and it’ll reinforce your gameplay with a little extra strength. Of course, mobility and agility must be practiced to keep a healthy balance.

Cardiovascular work is definitely one of the most important aspects to soccer, because the game relies so heavily upon it.
Luckily, there are quite a lot of benefits to this type of running: It wards off viral illnesses, reduces health risks, strengthens your heart and even boosts your mood!

Heavy legs but I still got it 😝
Even if it’s just for 10 minutes. Getting a good rally in after a workout can keep your body familiar and “in tune” with how you want to perform. The easiest way I’ve found is do a little bit each day to improve. Stay jugglin! ⚽️

One thing I love most about soccer is the way people support and keep up with their favorite teams. I wore this out to a field on Sunday and someone yelled “Madrid was so lucky!” (Referring to the game a day before)

If you can recover harder then you can train, you’re an opponents biggest fear. Once I became familiar with stretching before and after practices I never stopped, and have been good to go ever since.
Fun fact you can reduce lactic acid in the body by stretching!

Sometimes the biggest issues in a game start with the smallest problems. As a soccer player you have to dominate in the realm of recovery, preparation and consistency in training. The reason I say this, is because one little injury can take you out for a season, which can be devastating to your overall progress and momentum.

Outside midfielders are a super important role and here’s why: These positions give your team width, and more flexibility for your team to maneuver the ball. That being said, whether your team is defending or attacking. You need to be level with the ball to provide maximum support.
In conclusion, have some great cardio if you plan to play on the wings 😅

The conditions we dread to play in, but know to expect. Playing in the rain can cause extremely uncertain conditions for a game. The ball will skip and slide like butter in a frying pan, or it can land in a puddle and freeze. So it’s important to familiarize yourself with rainy conditions, as it’s always better to be safe than sorry.

“We are all apprentices in a craft where no one ever becomes a master”
- Ernest Hemingway
Although most soccer players don’t strive for dense upper bodies. I personally believe it’s a vitally important trait to maintain in a sport with contact, especially keepers. One prime example: headers on a corner kick.

Footwear has to easily be the most important part to a soccer players career. Whether it be indoor or outdoor, the cleats you wear support every step you take, and if it’s too narrow, too wide, too uncomfortable or short in length, that can completely alter your entire gameplay. Invest in yourself, by giving yourself the best.

Using today as a recovery day. Simply stretching out and getting some fun cardio in instead of weights.
Although taking a week off from juggling a normal ball can take its toll, enjoy my first touches of the day lol!

Let’s talk protein benefits 💪🏼
We all know protein is good for you but why?
No matter the exercise, your body creates micro tears in the muscle. The faster you replenish that muscle with protein and amino acids, the faster that muscle can repair and build itself back.
Don’t forget your post workout protein shakes! 💪🏼😤

At first I got a mini ball thinking it was for fun. However, I found myself getting close to a few thousand touches a week! All because it was right at my feet and easy to play with around the house. All I can say is if a soccer player keeps one of these in his bag, you know he’s a baller!

There’s only two specific times for cardio, either in the morning and weights at night, or cardio after weights and here’s why: Cardio burns your body’s glycogen reserves extremely fast. So fast that your body is left with no choice but to tap into fat.
When you workout with weights, it’s crucial your body has lots of carbohydrates (glycogen) to use. Otherwise you’ll fatigue extremely quick, and won’t be able to hit as many high intensity sets. This reasoning alone is why I prefer them at different times.

The beautiful part about the game is it changes rapidly. Whether it be a team’s play style, improved fitness, physicality or a new idea implemented. The game will always develop, but don’t forget to train the basics, it’s the most important part.

Medicine ball crunches: By far one of my favorite ab exercises due to its full range of motion, tight contraction, and ability to hit all abs evenly. Whether it’s after a workout or run, this is a great way to finish out the day.
