This self portrait session was a matter of only a few minutes. I saw the light hitting the grass outside in our garden. And there were these long rays of light that only occur during sunset and my first instinct was that I HAD to take some photographs with that. So I rushed to get my camera and tripod and also to get my clothes off.
And then creating happened in an absolute daze, I feel I was rushing to get that light, that was moving away so quickly and not a lot of thought went into the poses, it was just me moving frantically and pressing the shutter every time I thought something might be interesting. In reality I could barely even see what was happening on the screen.
But manβ¦ it was so FREEING; just rolling around in the grass, naked and free with the setting sun on my bodyβ¦
I think it was absolutely perfect and I really enjoyed myself. And I also thought this would be a very fitting first post for this new platform! To set an example of what I am aspiring towards... In my art, as well as my life! To be FREE and to CREATE, outside and with nature.
So yeah... Welcome <3 I can not wait to go on this journey with you! :)
Another set of self-portraits. Self portraits really have been very therapeutic and enriching in my life and I feel a lot of creative passion for it.
I recently bought a new camera quite spontaneously and this was the first time I got to use it. I am absolutely delighted with it! :)
For anyone curious I am now using an Olympus OM-D E5 ii with a 14-150 lens. I can easily connect it to my phone, so I can actually see on my phone what the camera is capturing :)
Lately I have been feeling very critical of the art I am creating and theres moments where I feel theres something missing, especially when I am behind the camera photographing other people. It feels at times that I am reaching and searching for something, but I don't quite know what it is and I am unable to grasp it...
This set however... it hits the right spot! I find I got a lot of images I really love from this and that theres meaning to them somehow... They make me feel something.
I also had a few different Objectives when creating this. In the beginning (where I did the 'shapes') I was just flowing but then I had a desire to play with angles, which made me really look at myself, at the things that I sometimes don't find beautiful about myself and things I could actively love more... so then it turned somewhat into a quest of showing the realness of me. How my stomach makes rolls and how the skin texture is different on my bum and all these little things were always told not to have and not to be...
I want to show (especially to women) that we all have these things and that they can be so beautiful...
I recently photographed a woman with a rather voluptuous body type and I really enjoyed it! But she is quite insecure about certain things of her body and has trouble seeing how her wonderfully curved body could be anything of beauty. And it made me really sad... Because I saw so very much beauty in her...
To be honest I am not entirely sure where I am going with this... This text already has gotten much longer than anticipated. I guess what I am trying to say is that we all can create more space in our lives to actively love ourselves. Because I have found very strongly that loving yourself inspires others to love themselves too, and how beautiful would the world be if we all were aware of the ever abundant love within ourselves...?
Did a bit of an alien kind of makeup today. Often doing face paintings is something that comes about from boredom for me... And also theres a shot I took in the mirror after I finished it cause the light was so nice and i felt like it :)
Have been wanting to take some photos in the bathtub for the longest time! It was kinda hard to get the light right because the light in our bathroom is pretty dim but I think I still created something interesting!
And on the other hand its actually also just something to pass the time... I'm really starting to get stir crazy and can't wait to start working and moving again...
My first shoot will be on the 26th! With the photographer @ernstbernardus (π instagram) were going to go in the outdoors, which I'm really looking forward to ππ³
Oh and for anyone interested, I used some food coloring pigment to get the water like that. I think I could've used a bit less, to have the water a bit more see through, but it still worked out fine...
Let me know what you think π
Got some really wonderful responses to one of the images in the bathtub so I thought I'd share some more π
To me in one of this images it almost looks like a dress or something
From a fun spontaneous webcam shoot with one of my best friends. She had never actually done anything like this... She hasn't even photographed me in person yet, but we were talking on the phone and she wanted to try it, so we did. What do you think? Do you love watermelons as much as I do?
A few more from the webcam shoot with my friend.
Did you know I am going to start doing shoots again soon? I already have the first week of June booked full and several more after that, so you can look forward to some more varied and new content! :)
I will also have two shoots together with another model called Emma (@riel.life on instagram) during one of the shoots we will get body painted! Thats really something I am looking forward to and I am hoping to get lots of BTS pictures and videos from it. Would you guys like seeing a time-lapse for example of us getting painted?
I am always open for suggestions and things you'd like to see so feel free to talk to me about it :)
From my first shoot with @bayek_photography
Bayek and I have spoken many times about organizing a holiday/trip for photographers, where we would bring along maybe one or two other models and rent out a villa in the mediterranean somewhere... Especially now after the quarantine that seems like such an appealing idea to me...
I am so excited for my next shoot! Tomorrow I will get to pose for some Collodion wet plate photographs for the first time! :)
I always enjoy doing analoge photographs, because you have to slow waaay down and it feels like those images are taken with a lot more awareness and mindfulness.
Although in general I would say that posing can really calm me and makes me feel "zen" it happens even more so with analoge photography. So I am really curious to see what the experience will be with the collodion wet plate photography, since that process is even slower...
Are you as excited as I am?
Image from this weeks shoot by @ernstbernardus (<- instagram)
Since Instagram didn't allow me to post this, it's going on here.
It actually been such a pleasant relief to just be able to post stuff here without having to worry if it's gonna be taken down, or if my account might even get deleted...
From a really awesome shoot with Maarten Koch. It was such a gorgeous day and actually a bit too hot even... I'm surprised that I don't seem to have any sunburn
Will be posting some collodion wet plate developing videos soon!
Today's shoot with Barrie Hullegie spontaneously ventured outside, after we shot some stuff in the studio first. We ended up exploring an area where the Germans built barracks in world War II and found a ton of bunkers!
After yesterday being so hot, this wind was very refreshing π
The first plate we made :) I think we redid this particular image 6 times, changing light and posture slightly every time... Its a very slow process in general, we worked about 6 hours and i think we got 11 or 12 images...
Impromptu little self-portrait session, because I found a GoPro flashlight. Certainly still very experimental in working with non natural light sources....
From the archives... I know these are kind of random but I came across them earlier and thought it would be fun to share them because I don't think I ever have before...
Long exposure is definitely a theme that I havent done much with yet and certainly want to explore much more. I find it fascinating to capture movement in images and using a longer exposure can be really interesting for that
I think, this is the only other time I ever experimented with long exposure and it was still only really early on in my exploration, of self portraiture (how much has changed...)
I definitely would not consider these very good or anything worth putting into my portfolio, but I thought it might be interesting for you to see more of the process and development that I have made in the past year since I started all of this... And also some of the projects and image sets that I have never really shown publicly.
Do you find that interesting? Or would you rather only see the more polished and refined stuff?
I'd say if you want to be a model you have to have a lot of patience. Because a big part of it means waiting, while lights are adjusted and set up, maybe the backdrop needs to be changed, the settings on the camera have to be right and so on and so on...
Especially with photographers that might still be honing their skills or trying out a new technique, there will always be a lot of waiting time. And don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining, but I do think it's interesting to see that and have access to what goes on behind the images that you end up seeing π
Also is it just me or do you find it interesting to see how my demeanor changes between waiting and posing?
I've heard from some photographers, that something they really appreciate about working with me, is that I can just turn it on so to say, from one moment to another and have the desired intensity and expressiveness for the images.
I know this particular video might not be very exciting, but would you like to see more bts videos from this shoot? The original video is quite long, so that's why I cut it down to this...
Also sorry π for all these questions but would any of you be interested in me recording or doing a live stream of me taking self portraits?
I don't know, if I would narrate very much but if you guys want to send me some questions or topics you'd like me to talk about, I could incorporate that π let me know π
Went out to take some self portraits today. I didn't end up taking very many and except for this one I am actually not happy with them, but I think those are the experiences that we learn from. I also recorded a couple of videos in between and want to cut it together with said images to give you an idea of the process...
Outdoor self portraiture is a field that I feel I still need to improve and relax in...
This is the first time for me making a video like this so bear with me...
I also want to mention that it's a very honest and rare view into my work, since I normally don't share images that I'm not at least to some degree happy with.
Let me know your thoughts β
From my recent shoot with @ernstbernardus (<- instagram)
I am happy with what we created on this shoot :) Although my personal images are more abstract (at least thats how I perceive them) I appreciate these classical images that highlight a simple beauty and harmony with nature <3
I took this image a little while back and had posted it to instagram but it unfortunately got taken down in a matter of seconds...
So it makes me so happy that I can share it here now! I find that theres this incredible beauty in how simple it is. In how you can see my skin texture and 'imperfections'... I think it would look really wonderful as a print. What do you think? Would you hang it on your wall?
If I actually had a place to hang art, this would be amongst the first images I would hang...
In general if you are ever interested, I do sell prints of my self portraits or anything that was taken by my partner @bad.buddha.photography (you can find him on instagram)
I have really been needing to challenge myself to find things that still feel fresh and new, even though I keep using the same spot... I think I am learning a lot from it because it pushes my creativity and problem solving skills. And then when I do use a different space, I feel I can look at it much differently and openly.
The past few days it's been raining non stop but now the sun is finally out again and it feels so good on my skin!! β β¨
Also super excited for my duo shoot tomorrow with Emma! I will try and get some videos and BTS pics for you guys ππ
