"Dreams" -- STORY BEHIND THIS SONG -- When I love two men I write love songs for both of them, one song for two lovers. One lyric for the man who dreams of more simple pleasures and one lyric for the man who aims into the fantasy, beyond the familiar. I lay in one man’s arms as he tells me about his dreams of family, house, boats, community and relationships at the core of his life. He dreams of many lovers. The other man rubs my feet as we watch Lord of The Rings documentaries and we daydream about our careers carrying us to epic opportunities to create with talented teams of artists. He dreams of excellence in his craft and closeness to god. Both men dream of something just beyond me, something that is fully their own. Both men eagerly believe in my dreams, watching me lean into something that is fully mine, something just beyond them. We won’t see each other’s dreams and visions until they are manifest. Instead of telling, we will show. How lovely to live beside dreamers. How exciting to live the dreams into reality. If I cling to the men I love I will never give myself the space I need to manifest my dreams. I release them so I may be free to love life even more. • I poured the most time and energy into the first track, “Dreams”, refining it for months. I was dancing to it in the kitchen, blasting it on my car speakers, soaking it in on my paddleboard day after day, making little changes along the way. It was my pride and joy for the spring and summer of 2022. It took its sweet time and required many drafts and a lot of patience and perseverance from me. I was frustrated trying to stay organized with so many versions and edits. I felt agony on a few occasions when I had to “kill my darlings” (edit out pieces I loved that didn’t add enough value to the final product). It was my favorite song of the year and the album so the perfectionist parts of my personality were in the driver seat. I was very particular about how the different segments of the song flowed together. It’s the song that seemed to matter the most to me. It holds the purest essence of my life during this time period.
