I had begged a director—who had planned to pay me twice this month—to condense two filming days into one. He kept insisting that the 13th would work, but I argued that it would be better to film everything on the second filming day, the 21st, because I had something very important to focus on today, the 18th.
The 18th, of course, is today, the day of my acting class “showcase,” which I didn’t want to slack on. After a lot of back and forth, the director finally agreed we could shoot everything on the 21st instead. Of course, that meant I only get paid half of what was originally intended. Still, I was okay with taking the cut to prioritize my acting class showcase.
And then…the showcase got canceled. Well, rescheduled—for an incredibly inconvenient date, right before I leave for clown college on the East Coast.
But whatever. 😆 I always try to do my best for everything I commit to, even if it means taking less pay to fulfill my other obligations. But seriously—why even bother?
I didn’t handle this well. I went out, drank my feelings, and I’m just now waking up from my little lit stupor. I’m still upset. I know no one could have predicted a structural accident in the theater, but GOD DAMN. Couldn’t we have just performed outside? It’s just a 30-minute show, especially since one skit was already cut due to a student dropping out at the last minute.
So now I’ve lost my second scene, and I’m stuck with half the pay from the director, all because I rearranged everything to prioritize the showcase. That’s literally half my rent gone.
UGH. Fuck today.
