A WW2 (possibly also used in Korea) fighter pilot silk scarf of the 319th Fighter Squad. Scarves were used by pilots to combat the bitter cold and wind of the atmosphere.
Pilots donned heavy leather jackets secured tightly around the necks which either caused chafing and blisters if too tight, or if loosened allowed gaps that icy wind could cause injury. A silk scarf was introduced to the uniform that would allow smooth movement for a pilot to maneuver, and a long length was used so it could as be used to wipe the condensation from their googles
